Bocca di Bacco is situated inside the magnificent building at Friedrichstraße 167/168, built in the year 1905 by Bruno Schmitz, the architect responsible for the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig.
The building is a first-rate example of architectural historism in Germany, its façade distinguished by striking figures – for example, the three naked figures above the display windows or the stylised male head that greets visitors above the main entrance, forever laughing with the wide, gaping mouth from which our restaurant takes its name – the Mouth of Bacchus
The great hall on the ground floor originally boasted marble panelling, and was the home of Berlin's first automated restaurant, in which automatic food and drink dispensers allowed the diner in a hurry to put together a quick lunch. Today, almost 100 years later and at the same location, our response to this belief in the power of progress to transform our world and our everyday lives through technology is a reaffirmation of the human virtues of craftsmanship and hospitality.
Pause for a moment... and feel the winds of history
caressing our building.
Welcome to Bocca di Bacco!
